I came across a small issue with Visual Studio 2010, I couldn’t launch the ASP.Net Configuration site. I kept clicking on the small icon in the Solution Explorer, but nothing happened, apart from the built-in IIS bubble firing up. The problem is the default browser, which is Firefox in my case. I tried googling for the solution, and I kept seeing people mentioning “Browse with…” and change default browser. But I had no god damn Browse with option when I right-clicked.
Turns out it doesn’t work with everything, you need a genuine HTML page (and not .aspx) in the solution and then you get the Browse with option if you right-click it. From there, you can just set Internet Explorer as the default and it should work fine.
Hope ESL doesn’t steal it and put it up on their ladders as PAMD like they did with 1.01. I would’ve gladly helped them out if they had just asked, but no. At least the guy in charge was kind enough to acknowledge that they failed to give credits. I’m still waiting for them to correct this, wonder if it will ever happen.
I woke up one day with a feeling that I need a headset for my PS3. Luckily some companies already thought about providing stuff for this market.
My first try was the Turtle Beach PX21 which looked pretty cool, but you probably learned by now, looks can be deceiving. When I hooked it up to my system it immediately started a constant hiss. Tried a variety of things but it wouldn’t go away, so eventually I took it back to the store. After reading the interwebz I concluded that some people have this and some people don’t (or they are just deaf). Anyhow, I don’t recommend this particular headset for anyone.
Then I kept looking and came across Sharkoon’s X-Tatic Digital headset. It was 1.5x the price of the PX21, but I was determined. I read a lot of reviews and forums to make sure this won’t backfire on me and thankfully it didn’t.
The visually upgraded adventures of Gulybrush Threepwood, mighty pirate, will continue on the 7th of June with Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge. As always, Steam has an offer a true adventure lover can’t resist. For pre-ordering the game, you will also get The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition for free which is of course the first game. Thankfully you don’t have to wait to play the first game, you can start downloading it as soon as your payment is complete. The game costs 10€, not sure if it’s a pre-order price.
If you don’t know what the fuss is about, you should know that ~20 years ago, adventure games were the games everyone was playing. Monkey Island was one of its kind, with clever puzzles, witty humour and of course pirates. You can imagine what kind of visuals went with a game back then, so in order to bring the experience to today’s audience, some improvements had to be made.
All the art was re-done to make it as good looking as it is, and voice acting was also added because we all know nobody actually reads today.
I must admit, I haven’t played a lot with the first two Monkey Islands, cos I was about 12 and didn’t speak any English. The franchise only started at the third game for me. Last year when the first special edition was released I was hoping they would do the same with the sequel, so I didn’t buy it then. Instead, I dived into Tales of Monkey Island by Telltale Games. And here we are today, my patience has payed off and I can get the bundle.
Wonder if they’ll remake The Curse of Monkey Island. I still have the game on my shelf and it still works (with ScummVM).
Well fuck. I’ve pre-ordered my copy of Medal of Honor from Steam on the 18th in order to get into the beta that starts on the 21st. Steam offered the early beta from 17, but that would’ve required owning their Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and I only have the boxed version, so fuck them. It was only later that I found out there were other ways to get into the early beta but by then I was like “fuck it, I’ll wait”.
Anyhow, I started reading the Steam forums to see the feedback. I saw someone posting that he came across some cheaters. I was sceptical at first, thought he was just simply bad at the game or someone found a bug, but a cheat, certainly impossible. Then I started seeing screenshots of cheats and I was shocked. Seriously, someone took the time to make a full-featured cheat for a beta?
Played some Super Street Fighter IV today in Tournament mode. 4 players, I advanced from the first match but in the final the guy beat me to perfect both times. His Chun-Li had over 5k points on it, while my Cody is just over 300. It really annoys me how imbalanced matches are still.
I would just like to play matches at my own pace, but it’s very often that the game puts me with someone who’s way above my skill level. I can tell you that it’s no fun to get owned by people who memorized 2 strings and keep doing it, but I lack the knowledge how to counter them or start an assault of my own if I manage to break free.
Oh well, maybe Marvel vs Capcom 3 will be my game.
*Update*
Actually, I managed to win a tournament on my 2nd try against some 3k guy who was using Crimson Viper. He was probably pissed after losing to a noob like me.
We’ve been referring to Microsoft’s motion controller technology as Project Natal for the past year, now we need to face the official retail name: Kinect. I won’t lie, right now I’m not at peace with it. It just sounds weird to say and weird to write down. Maybe Microsoft’s original idea was to call it Move, but since Sony took that earlier, they had to fall back to something else.
We now also know of a few titles that are designed for the Kinect (still feels weird):
Kinectimals, basically a petting zoo with lots of animals to play around with
Joyride is the racing game where you pretend you’re holding a steering wheel
Kinect Sports will bring the generic array of sports
Kinect Adventures is a rafting game with obstacle courses to master
Dance Central will be a dancing game (shocking, ain’t it)
Additional games later to be named by Disney and LucasArts (Star Wars \o/)
I’m not really sold on Microsoft’s take on motion controls. I live in a relatively small apartment, it’s the same issue with Tony Hawk’s Ride, you need to clear out your whole living room just to have enough space to move around. Sony’s Move has slightly more appeal and I can picture myself sitting in my couch while playing LittleBigplanet 3 or something.
A while back the debut teaser of Marvel vs Capcom 3 was shown to the public. Even though trailers don’t necessarily reflect the final product’s visuals, it was pretty impressive none the less.
Now a new E3 trailer emerged introducing 2 new characters: Deadpool the merc with a mouth and Dante from Devil May Cry. Before this trailer I didn’t realise the game had a sub title – Fate Of Two Worlds.
Watching the video, memories started emerging about Mortal Kombar vs DC Universe. I never played a Marvel vs Capcom (or any other “vs Capcom”) game before, so I don’t know if there’s a story attached to them, but if they are going the MK rout I find it a bit cheap. Either way, Deadpool FTW!
If I try to recall the time when the first Force Unleashed was being hyped, I can’t seem to remember them showing this level of badassness. It was only recently that I got my PS3, and the game didn’t look all that convincing to spend money on it right away. I ended up putting it on the back burner but eventually bought it real cheap and it turned out to be a decent game.
The sequel on the other hand is a totally different story. From the first trailer I knew I was going to buy it day 1. To make matters worse, the Collector’s Edition is now being introduced to the world.
It will include:
3 exclusive challenge maps
an extra Starkiller skin
a lightsaber crystal
2GB Starkiller themed flash drive with bonus content
artbook
Based on my previous encounters with CE items, I’m a little concerned about the quality of the packaged goods. For example, the steelbook is never steel, it’s just shiny plastic. And the images in the artbooks usually look nice, but the whole thing stinks of mass production (bad paper quality). And the bonus features aren’t that appealing either. But damn it, I must have it.
One little difference I noticed between the PS3 and the 360 versions is that the 360 version has 2 disks. I say that in a negative way, because if you ever owned a 2 disk CE, you are familiar with the impossible task of getting the disks out.
Once again the Fatality lovers can rejoice, because Ed Boon is working on a new Mortal Kombat title. After Mortal Kombat vs DC Univerese, Boon said that they will be returning to the original style of MK in their next title, and sure enough the trailer seems to prove just that.
I do admit that I pretty much sucked in MK vs DC, and the challenges were horrible, but that won’t stop me from buying. Unfortunately, we’ll need to wait till 2011 to get our hands on it.
